Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve

About

Welcome to the stunning Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, nestled in the picturesque Kansas Flint Hills. Spanning across the heart of North America, the tallgrass prairie once blanketed over 170 million acres of land. However, the rapid expansion of farms, cities, and towns led to the dwindling of this majestic ecosystem. Today, only a mere 4% of this once-expansive landscape remains, with the majority being preserved within the breathtaking Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. Officially established on November 12, 1996, this national park stands as a vital sanctuary safeguarding a nationally significant remnant of the tallgrass prairie. As you wander through the preserve, you'll witness firsthand the resilience of this unique ecosystem as it makes its final stand amidst the rolling Flint Hills. Immerse yourself in the beauty of the undulating tallgrass, listen to the melody of the wind as it rustles through the prairie, and witness the vibrant tapestry of wildflowers that paint the landscape in a kaleidoscope of colors. Whether you're a nature enthusiast, a history buff, or simply seeking solace in the great outdoors, Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve offers a captivating experience for all who venture here.
