The Pennsylvania Avenue National Historic Site is always open to the public (except for special events like Presidential Inaugurations and State Funerals). There are no Rangers on duty at this site (except for special events). The United States Park Police are on duty 24 hours a day.

The avenue is among the world's more famous streets and is known the world over as the heart of the Nation's Capital, extending through the corridors of Federal power and influence. "America's Main Street" visually connects, yet separates, the White House from the U.S. Capitol and the U.S. Supreme Court buildings.
