Forget your GPS! When it comes to finding Mammoth Cave National Park, following these simple, step-by-step directions will ensure a smoother journey and a more enjoyable experience of this popular Kentucky attraction.
Coming from the North
Are you traveling Interstate 65 from the North? You'll want to exit at Exit 53, also known as the Cave City Exit. Make a right onto KY-70 and continue to follow 70/255. This route will naturally morph into the Mammoth Cave Parkway once you enter the park. Stick with the Mammoth Cave Parkway and it'll lead you straight to the Visitor Center.
Coming from the South
Traveling from the South on Interstate 65? Exit 48 is your best bet. This is the Park City Exit. From here, take a left onto KY-255. Keep following 255; it will turn into Park City Road as you enter the park. Continue on Park City Road until it intersects with the Mammoth Cave Parkway. Take a left at the intersection, and the Mammoth Cave Parkway will guide you directly to the Visitor Center.

Kentucky has a moderate climate with warm, yet moist conditions. Summers average in the high 80s; winters average in the low 40s. Southern Kentucky, where Mammoth Cave is located, receives the highest average precipitation for the state, about 50 inches per year, mostly in spring. Winter can bring mild to moderate snow and ice. Storms happen year-round, and can include tornadoes and flooding in low-lying areas, but severe weather is infrequent. The temperature deep in the cave is a constant 54°F (12°C).
