Directions from Albuquerque or Eastbound Travelers
Embarking from Albuquerque or arriving from the east? Navigate your way to the Interstate 40 heading west until you reach Grants. Look out for exit 81, then take a southern turn onto Highway 53. Continue your journey south for approximately 42 miles, and you'll find yourself at the stunning El Morro National Monument.
Directions from Flagstaff or Westbound Travelers
If you're coming from Flagstaff or traveling from the west, follow the Interstate 40 eastbound until you arrive in Gallup. Exit at junction 20, and proceed to the south via Highway 602 for about 31 miles. Then, make a left turn onto Highway 53 heading east. After approximately 25 miles, the magnificent El Morro National Monument will be in sight.

Trails can close unexpectedly due to severe weather. Average snowfall: 40 inches per year. Average precipitation (snowmelt and rain): 16 inches per year. Warmest month: July, with average highs of 84 degrees and lows of 52 degrees. Coldest months: December and January, with average lows of 14-15 degrees, and average highs of 44-45 degrees.
